I've noticed that starting at around 4 years old my boys clothing, esp. their pants just don't make it to the consignment shops or are soooo crappy looking that I wouldn't even bring them anyway!!!

Am I alone or are other moms noticing that at a certain age they are no longer getting money back on clothing and all that's left is giving the stuff away or tossing it.

Yes, for me it was when my boys were around 7 or 8. Since then, the only clothing that would be worthy of consignment are the ones purchased just prior to a huge growth spurt. I don't have problems with my daughters clothing, though.

It must be the guy thing!

Because DH's clothes, could never be taken to the consignment store either. Even his dress clothes, I have to really look them over after a few times. If he needs to change the oil in one of the cars, he doesn't care if he is wearing his dress clothes or garage clothes.

You're not alone, I notice it too!! I work in a consignment shop and we are very limited on the boys clothes, (baby boy clothes are plentiful, but the bigger the size the less of it we seem to get) I agree that boys seem to wear out their pants/shorts so much quicker than girls, and the quality of the stuff our consignors bring in is sometimes questionable, so it gets donated or returned to the consignor. I end up donating a lot of my ds's clothes too, or I give them to a friend of mine for her ds to use as 'play' clothes.

For my son it started at size 6. Boys do wear out the pants faster. I stock up if I find a clearence sale. I also buy some when Target or Old Navy has their jeans for $7. Most of the few I do find at consignment shops are $5 anyways. Unless it is a top brand I will get the new.
