I never bought the mass quantities, even though that was sometimes on the list, and the only supplies that I turned in to her teacher were a box of tissues and a roll of paper towels. I got one or two glue sticks, a few pencils, one box of crayons, wrote her name on them, put them in her backpack, and they stayed in her backpack when they weren't being used.
I was doing well to keep one kid in supplies - I couldn't afford to keep the whole class supplied.

Even with almost everyone brining in glue sticks, we still run out mid way through the year.

The ziplock idea is really good because my Kinders lose notes that are in folders because they fall right out.

Not here. My DD's school provides almost everything for students. They do ask us to donate a few boxes of tissues and bring a large pencil box. I guess there is a bonus to living in the city.

Which is why I don't like the community property idea. It was much easier for me to buy a couple at a time for her to use, and replace them when she used them up than it would have been to buy a dozen at a time, and then be asked to send another dozen later in the year.

I'm not really SHOCKED, I guess, but was a little surprised to see...

"1 Bath Towel for Rest Time with Name on it"

Are they gonna all have room to roll out bath towels to lay down on? I guess...

I don't even know what is on our shcool supply list. I just pay the $40 for the pack and it is on my son's desk the first day of school. I have been told that you can't beat the deal even if you shop around. I mean with gas and all and then picking up the wrong items. It is just easy.

I've only printed the list and bought for my youngest DD who will be in first grade this year. Nothing was too pricey but I was shocked that she needed 6 boxes of crayons. Last year in kinder. we just turned everything into the teacher and everyone shared but this year each student gets to keep their own stuff so it was fun for DD to pick out her supplies.

DD's supplies aren't that bad. She's going into first grade. The teacher has asked each parent to send in $10 and she'll provide all of the supplies for the classroom. However...having said that, it will mean that she "should" get $250, which can buy a whole lot of crayons, etc. What it realistically means is that 7 or 8 parents will send in their money and will float the entire rest of the classroom's school supplies. I hate the community supply thing. In our school, the kids steal each others' supplies, anyway. Yuck.
