I agree.

A lot of companies don't offer vision insurance, other than what is covered in the medical plan, and as others have mentioned, a lot of vision insurance has really crappy coverage. Cheaper to use those coupons than your insurance half the time. Not having vision insurance certainly would make me feel bad. I don't even know if we do or not right now

Ours covers exams and certain surgeries (like cataract removal) but pays zero on corrective lenses of any kind. It's my understanding that that's pretty typical.

When I was growing up my family never had any sort of health insurance. I don't see it as a problem or something to be ashamed of at all. One of the great things about paying cash for dental, vision, doctors, etc. is that you typically get a discount for your services.

Just because you have insurance does not always mean you can afford to even use it. we use ours for our kids because lets face it they are kids. dh and I never go to the dr unless we are on our absolute death bed. we can't afford to have the co-pays and the percentage of the bill and if our deductable is not met forget it.

Try not to feel ashamed there are more and more people everyday that have no insurance.
