Let's start a list of tips for saving money on doll clothes.

-For baby dolls look at garage sales and Goodwill for preemie size clothes.

-If you are making clothes for the 18 inch dolls buy the patterns when they are on sale. You can get mailers from fabric stores to let you know of a sale. Look at the remnant rack. They put the ends of the rolls that are the perfect amount of material for doll clothes on sale.

-Go to Americangirl.com on Cyber-Monday. I saved lots of money for Christmas presents this way.

-My parents went to the state fair and found a vendor who was selling doll clothes. She had lots of outfits for $10-$12.

For those who can knit or crochet, you can save money by making your own doll clothes. Especially for those who have yarn stashes sitting in the closet gathering dust. If you are not opposed to using sock yarn and taking a bit of extra time, you can use patterns for baby clothing and it will come out fitting medium size dolls quite nicely. I prefer this method because the clothes look like miniature real clothes and not doll clothes. Patterns can be found on the internet for free.

a website for free patterns is

crochetpatterncentral.com

The sister site is

Knittingpatterncentral.com

There are THOUSANDS of free patterns on these sites! I'll never waste my money on a patterns book again.

Use your 40% off Michael's coupons for them. They even have a size that fits American Girl dolls.

You can check Once Upon a Child. They have onesies there for $.25 to $.50.
