I purchased their winter coats last year when they went on clearance at Sears. I paid $5.00 each for coats that were $75.00 full price. Their snow pants should still fit since I bought them a little big last year, so I won't need to buy new ones. I bought one pair of winter boots on clearance at Lands End for $15.00 and I am still looking for a good deal on another pair.

i got dd a winter coat at a thrift store..still had the tags on it and i paid $12 for it( tag was much higher). snowpants i always buy black ones and i have a pair i bought her last year($5) at value village and they will fit. she will need new boots as i cannot find womens size 8 winter boots without heels.

for ds, i went to the dry cleaners around our house and asked if they had any coats that no one picked up and they said lots. so i found a columbian winter coat for ds( mens large) for $8( the price it cost to clean the coat!). his boots might fit from last year ( mens size 14 )... if not then i will have to shell out big $$$ for boots for his feet(only specialty stores sell over size 13 here).

i went to yard sales and got mitts, hats and gloves for cheap and just washed them.

I usually like to buy clothes a year or two in advance. I go after the season, but I always have a hard time with the winter clearance. Does anyone know when the best time to buy winter clothes is? I've heard it's January but I'm wondering if it would be better around Spring. Any ideas?

I'm so impressed with this thread. Love the creative ideas.

I confess, I usually buy new but one size up so they get 2-3 years worth of wear out of them.

I've always found late Feb or early March is the best time to score the biggest bargains!

I always buy to cover two years...this year is the second year for his suit from Costco (it's holding up VERY well). I will buy a new one at the end of season this year that will cover off next year and *cross your fingers* the next year too.

I bought dd's snow clothes on ebay. We are skiers so I wanted something durable and waterproof. Obermeyer has the I grow system so you get several years out of the clothes!!

I just got a coat for my daughter at Sam's Club. She needed a fall jacket, and I got her the 3-in-1 type. It's a polar fleeze lining that zips into a weatherproof shell. She can wear both layers together when it's cold, or she can wear the fleece lining or weatherproof shell separately. It was only $28, which wasn't too bad.
