Hi I'm new to this website just found it and thought it was interesting. I am learning how to start saving money and all that so I was excited when I stumbled across this site. Okay here is my question... Do you have any tips on how to save money on diapers and formula. I have 2year old (who has yet to be potty trained) and a 5 month old. We just spend $40 on formula alone!!!! AHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!! Of course that was like two containers but still its very expensive. I just really wished I had stuck with the breastfeeding well if you have any suggestions I appreciate it. Thanks

Hi and welcome! My only suggestions at the moment are to ask your doc for samples and use coupons.

Have you tried different brands of formula. Supposedly store brand formula is supposed to be just as good.

I've started using the Up&Up brand diapers from Target and really like them. They are quite a bit cheaper and work really well for us.

We started with Good Start, but found that our store brand (Lowe's) was just as good for her and she liked it just as well. It saved me around $5/can.

I agree about the coupons for diapers. Also, whichever brand you use (if not store brand), go to their website and register. Most will send coupons. I know several of the ladies here use cloth. That wasn't an option for us (due to circumstances), but that is another idea.

if you should look up your local WIC program. If you are income qualified you can get your formula for your infant and milk, cheese, juice and veggies for your two year old.

Store brand formula is a huge money saver. The Member's Mark (Sam's club) brand is just under $20 for a 54oz can of powder. Unfortunately my youngest can't tolerate anything but Good Start. So, I've done a lot of trading for formula coupons on various coupon trading sites. Also, make sure you've signed up for whichever brand of formula you're using - they'll send coupons.

Also, if you do go with store brand formula, most brands are made by PBM Nutritionals. You can call them every 30 days to request coupons - just tell them which store brand you're using. I believe they send 2-3 coupons at a time. 1-800-485-9918

For diapers, watch for sales and use coupons. Huggies has had some great coupons out lately.

I was a single mom from day one and I feel for you. I had a very active and hungry boy. I was using the similac concentrated liquid with him and go thru 2 $40 cases a month. I made $40 too much annually to qualify for WIC so was on my own. I got by buying all furniture, equipment, and clothing at yard sales, and then selling things off as he outgrew them. I was too far from home so there was no one to throw me a shower. My mom mailed me $ to buy an infant swing (it was a life saver!) A friend pitched in and bought me a car seat.

Do not be afraid to accept clothing and other items from friends and other moms. My most precious gift was my neighbors (who were trying for one of their own). They would come over and ask if they could take him to church with them so I could have some time to myself (Thank You Deana and William!!)

I just gave away on Freecycle all the free samples and formula checks I got. So keep an eye out on there.

I use to buy the most expensive formula worried that he would have a hard time if I would switch. I used Enfamil and switched to Parents Choice available at Walmart. A lot cheaper! Someone told me they are made at the same place but just milled different. Only thing with Parents Choice, you have to mix it better. I'll save the extra buck and mix the bottle a little longer
