I had a conversation with a friend last night who had been out shopping for Halloween costumes and I was in shock when she told me the costs of some of these outfits.. it was crazy. I told her we always made our own..pulled together things from home and bought only minimal accessories.. less than $10.
As a Mom of four, I certainly could not afford $30 to $50 per kid for Halloween costumes..so always improvised and they were always a success. We should all share ideas for costumes we have made at home!

My son is a Thomas freak. He wants to be a train conductor (I hate those stupid Thomas costumes that just go over them), so I decided to make a costume for him. I couldn't find a pair of striped overalls in his size, but I bought a denim apron and am going to make white stripes probably using puffy paint (I haven't figured out the logistics of this part yet). I am buying a cap, red bandana, and train whistle on ebay for $6.95 with free shipping. If I could find the cap cheaper, I have the bandana, but it's a set and pretty cheap, so I'm getting it.

My not quite 1 year old is going to be a kangaroo. I found a furry "jacket" type thing on a garage sale for $1.00.
