Do you do a big clothes shopping trip for back to school? I was just wondering how others do this? I never have. I just buy the kids things as they need them. Actually, I have a stash of boys pants in tubs in the basement With 4 boys ranging from 4 to 9 I can usually find something to fit them. I have never bought my kids more than one or 2 articles of clothing at a time, I just replace things as they grow or wear things out.

Not me! It is still HOT here at that time...so we wait for when it is cooler and they NEED fall clothes. Otherwise, we might buy them in August, and by the time they need them in October, they are 3 inches too short, etc!! We concentrate on all the great back to school deals in actual school supplies. I try to stock up for not just school, but also a year of needs at home for crayons, markers, etc!

This is the mistake I made last year when Megan went into preschool. I was so excited to go school shopping and bought a bunch of little skirts and shorts and short sleeve shirts - when school started the day after labor day she needed cooler clothes. I learned my lesson -- the hard way of course.

I don't either. I only get clothes for the kids when they need them, just like Jennifer said. I, too, have a stash of clothes in a tub. However, I recently remembered how important it is to "fit in" during those hard Middle School years. My second dd (age 11) has a need to be just like everyone else. So, last year for school photos, I let my dd pick out an outfit that was within reason price-wise.

i always make sure ds has a couple pairs of jeans(so the cool weather does not just sneak up on me) but other than that we get as we go along he wears shorts for the first month or two of school anyway he starts august 15th! we also focus on school suplies and i let him pick out a cool new back pack and lunch box so he is usually excited about that.....plus this way i have not overbought my dd and middle ds are pretty much done for fall with handme downs so they will get just a couple new things so pretty much oldest ds is the only one that will even need fall clothes.

I used to when the kids were younger and didn't grow so fast. There is no way i could do that now. Ds shot up from 5'7 to 6'1 in less than 2 years, at one point i was honestly buying him new pants every 6-7 weeks,it was crazy! I think his feet have finally stopped growing(atleast i hope so), Men's size 13 aren't easy to come by at Walmart around here. I buy both kids the really good quality name brand athletic shoes from Kohl's when they have their 50% off sales. I was very impressed with ds-he managed to make them last all year without needing new ones. I find them dress shoes at Goodwill or rummage sales, since they hardly ever need them. I buy the school supplies when they have to super cheap prices, i stock up on the notebooks too when they are as low as 25 cents a piece.
I have definitely learned to just buy as we need stuff, otherwise those nice outfits you buy in August won't fit in December.

Actually, I was just at Target and they had some really good clearance sales, so I got a pile of clothes for them for school. I always tend to buy a size bigger anyways so they can last a bit. Now that my kids are older and not growing as fast, they stay in their clothes a little longer, so I don't have to buy so much at one time. I think right now, to start school, all I need to get are some underpants and socks for them..

I also wait until the weather gets cooler before I go shopping for school clothes. I had to buy ds new jeans in April so I am hoping they will still fit him in Sept.

I guess I am years away from school clothes shopping but currently the schools in my area are uniform so it looks like thats what I will be buying. black or navy slacks or skirts, white shirts and navy cardigans.
