Yeah, I saw that but was already at Target. Plus, we have no office depot.

I try tog et the ones with initials and a pic then I just remove the initials.
forgot to add that I usually pay about $10 (sometimes less, sometimes more)per backpack. same or cheaper than a cheap backpack.

Would you mind sharing more info about the backpacks? I am also a believer in the good quality ones, but my kids are still in the character backpack stage. I have heard about buying the already initialed ones (cancelled order or something), but don't know where to get them and at what time of year. Thanks, much!

Also, an idea for those who need to label all things individually - Can you use return address labels - seems like a quick fix to me and I get a TON of them in the mail from various charities!! Just thinking it may save time by sticking these on...

I LOVE this site - I have gotten such wonderful information (and hopefully shared some too!). It is like have a thousand other eyes out there scouting for bargains for me, too!

be careful using the address labels, make sure its only on things that cant be seen outside of the backpack if shes walking home etc, because otherwise it could make her unsafe. I'm not a fan of personalized clothing or school bags because it gives strangers information that makes kids trust them.

This may end up being a double post, could have sworn I hit submit.
The big sale is usually in March. If they don't have a large inventory of mercahndise they will scale down the sale, which is what happened this past March. Not sure if they you can buy them online. I would guess not. I have both a Lands End store and an Inlet (what they call an outlet store). They have backpacks year round. I would ask the salesperson at the store. They are the ones that told me to use a seam riper, which is what I had figured I would use. HTH

Thanks, I'll look for the backbacks. Also, periwinkle- kudos for the safety warning on the address labels - I was thinking for stay-in-school-supplies only, but you brought up a valid point!

I just got our list today for my first grader. Our school gives you the option of paying $70 and having everything they need waiting for them in their classroom or you can hunt it all down and buy it yourself. The list is very specific and it is all name brand stuff. Last year was our first year and I thought that was a ridiculous amount of money so I bought it all myself and it was almost $60 and I had to go to several places. This year I am just going to pay the fee.

I'm lucky I have target, walmart, kmart, office max, walgreens all within 1mile of home and each other. I would have to pay $140. for both kids. I think $70 is outrageous. I can get stuff for WAAYYY cheaper than that. I think I'll start a post listing your costs.

If you want to label a backpack, you can try a luggage tag. I used to do that when my kids were younger and I just made a piece of paper to go inside that said "If Lost - Please Return" and indicated DH's cell phone number. That way it could be returned to us but we weren't using any of our personal information, child's name etc
