My boys have been attending summer rec for the past two months. They have played lots of games and done lots of crafts. A few games that they play would be easy and cheap to have at home.
First one is called; Drip, Drip, Drop. It is kinda like water duck, duck, goose. Same idea. But the one that is "it" has a big sponge soaked in water from a bucket of cold hose water. So he/she goes around to the group that is sitting in a circle. He/she holds the sponge over everyones head while saying drip, drip, drip, etc. So everyone is getting a little wet. And than the person that is drop (goose) gets the whole sponge squeeezed out on their head. Than the game of chase happens until the person that was it, runs and sits down the the new "it" persons spot.
The other one is still with sponges. They play dodgeball with them. Same rules as dodgeball. It is really fun and everyone gets wet and cools off. Beings they are getting hit with a sponge it is a little less lethal as oppose to getting hit with a ball. The summer rec group is all 4 & 5 year olds, so they dont usually hit hard. I would just explain to older kids to be careful.
You could also use them to have a water fight. I was thinking of getting the kids water ballons, but than I thought, who wants to pick up all the broken balloons afterwards?? Not me. So could just use the sponges and than there is no mess to pick up.
so basically for both games all you need is some sponges (the ones they use are pretty big sized ones) and a bucket to keep getting the sponges wet. Have a great rest of the summer.
