We do 99% of our clothes shopping (kids and adults) at thrift stores. I agree that you have to watch the prices because some charge outrageously and others are very cheap. We do shop Wal-Mart at the end of seasons but again, some mark down a lot more than others so you have to be smart when shopping them as well.

Shoes always new unless they are handed down to our own children or hand-me-downs from someone we know. Underwear, always new except to hand down to our own children.

Thankfully the last two years, my oldest daughter's clothes have come from my SIL whose daughter is a size or two bigger than mine. So plenty of clothes from her as she's the youngest of three girls and so after my daughter wears them, they'll be put away for my youngest daughter. Those that aren't completely worn out that is! And we got lucky this past summer and had a friend give us her son's shorts he'd grown out of for our son. Those will be packed away for our youngest son.

I don't shop for back to school clothes unless it is for me. I do shop at Goodwill on Wednesday which is dollar day. Also on Friday at ACTS items are 25 cents! I'm very frugal with how I spend money. Babies grow to fast to spend so much.

I always find much better deals at Gymbo and Gap on clearance is cheaper than the consignment store we have here in town and we don't have a goodwill. So no I haven't bought my kids clothes at thrift stores. But I'm not opposed to it, if we had one close to me I would go.

I just started looking at Thirft Stores. I was surprised at the deals to be had.
Name brands for very little money, And I mean, VERY LITTLE cost
I found a Chrisopher & Banks sweater for 1.99 on sale for .99
I know it was aleast a 25.00 sweater to begin with. Yet no one knows where I got a
Thirft Store.
I will be going back to the Thirft store to shop for tops/sweaters for my 12 yr old Daugther
for christmas. I will not tellher, I will let the lables speak for themselfs
With the price of gas and heating going up, I have to cut corners where I can.

Also check out Garage Sales in the spring/summer, and think ahead of the season.
Summer garage sales are a great place to gather ideals for Christmas gifts.
The savings are in the bag or in your pocket.

One item I always look for is Christmas Platters, which run about 1.00 to 2.00
At Christmas time I bake lots of items and put them on the Platters and give them away to teachers/Bus drivers etc etc. It's a cheap gift with thought.

Good Luck,

I do. They rarely get "new" clothes. But the thrift stores here sell a good amount of new with tag clothes. and consignment stores are nice- my kids dont mind it. they actually enjoy "digging for treasure" through the clothes lol!!!

I had a great find the other day. I was fretting over having no money to get the boys some more pants for school. My 5 & 4 year old are the same size so they share clothes. Between the two of them they only had three jeans and two khaki pants-which isnt bad, but I am constantly washing their pants so they are starting to wear faster than I wanted. I happen to have a few minutes to spare before it was time to pick them up from school, so I decided to go look at the thrift store here in town to see what they had. I was just there a week ago and they didnt have anything. I hit the jackpot, well it felt like it. Three pairs of carpenter jeans-wrangler and some other name brand. I got them all for $14! Plus on certain days they have things 50% off. I think I am gonna go there at least every other week and check out what is there.
