I have been spending around $15 a week at our local Salvation Army thrift store for my 3 teenage boys for going back to school clothes. They have a lot of great clothes and some haven't even been worn! Great bargain if I can get them 50% off on Mondays which costs me $1 each!

Anyone else shop at Thrift stores for back to school clothes?

I have never gotten my kids clothes from the thrift store. But I have never really looked for them. I know when I worked that is where I got 85% of my clothes. I had to dress nice for work-corporate wear. And you would be surprised (well, not really if you shop at thrift stores a lot) at the great deals I use to get all the time. I would get expensive name brand clothes for pretty much nothing.
I wil be doing the same for my new job. I figure why spend a fortune on clothes for work. I dont have to dress fancy, but look neat and presentable.

Not only do I shop at the thrift stores and consignment shops, I am gearing up for this weekend. We have our annual state wide tax holiday starting Friday at midnight until Sunday at midnight. I am not even setting foot in a Walmart or a Target, its all Once Upon a Child and Goodwill for me!

I do. My youngest ( she's almost 11 ) loves it! My older ones, now that's a different story. Thank goodness they buy all their own clothing - of course they are 20 & 21 now. But they wouldn't step foot in a good will when they were younger. I buy my clothing there and sometimes DH's.

Not sure if you have any stores near you (I am in a shopping mecca!!), but I have found that you can find many new items on clearance for the same price as you may pay at Thrift. In fact, I've followed so many tips from this board just in the last couple of weeks that have saved me a fortune (like boys new Levi jeans at Target for $4.38). Nothing wrong wtih Thrift, I just thought I'd put this out there since this is the time for great clearance shopping (and stocking up for next year!!)....... JMHO!!!

I am One of those people that Rarely Goes out on a Shopping Trip per se - I buy whatever I See That is Cheap - No matter wear it is!!

I agree with the poster above me! !

I shop Anywhere From thrift stores -to Gymboree for my kids

I have gotten my Kids so Many Nice things at gap kids -

My Ryan has at least 5 Shirts to Wear for the fall winter - All Gap kids - All 3.97 Each last Winter Clearance -

I just got my Older son His Favorite - Cut off Plaid shorts from there For 6.97 - Pairing it with an Ecko Brand Tshirt I Got for a Mere 5.23 on a 75 percent off rack

Also places like the Disney Store are often a Great Score For tshirts and stuff!

I got Ryan A few Tshirts this past weekend - for Next Summer - 1.87 Each!!
Oh and Gymboree - I bought him all his jammies - Last years gymmies style - at 6.97 Each! And I Just sold one pair on ebay for 15.00:happy dance: Also Got a Few pair of Boxer Briefs and socks .98 each!

Alot of times I shop the 50 cent Bins at our goodwill - since most of their Priced clothing seems like a Rip off to me -
Like they would put 3 or 4 dollars on a Gap shirt -
But I can go in there and get it brand new for that or less.

I also Don't think resale shops are that great - often Higher than Clearence .

And to the People who think its gross to Wear "used" Clothing I have Worked retail many times -
and People Try on Underwear and Bras - Bathing suits and Socks -
People wear clothes and Return them :roll eyes:
Nothing out there is untouched By man
You just have to Wash everything you buy anywhere- in your Own Washing Machine and then its Good as new.

I frequently shop at Goodwill, especially on quarter day or buy one get 2 free day. I have totes in the basement where I stash clothes that will fit them in the future. Any Gap clothes my girls have came from Goodwill. I also shop at Once Upon a Child for Gymboree clothes.

I shop everywhere and anywhere. I have found many brand new items at Goodwill. It is still cheaper for me to buy at goodwill even if the same price. I usually only pay more if it is new with tags. I save on gas and time. Goodwill is 4 blocks from my house and is open at 9am-9pm. Gap and the malls are 40 minutes away and open at 10am. Plus I don't want to get caught in traffic so I leave at 2:30pm. SInce I have the kids I have to buy lunch at the mall. I spend way less at Goodwill.
If I lived closer to malls I could see getting more deals, but I think overall it's better if u live farther away.
