What toys stand the test of time at your house?

I was just watching my boys and grandson build with simple wooden blocks. I think this is something that gets played with everyday at our house. All the fancy stuff and this is the favorite!! I think we bought this set about 12 years ago!!

Blocks are a good example. My son has some, I can keep for my daughter and my next son. Legos and Lincoln Logs are also good to hang on to. I think these things are the best for the imagination.

Legos and blocks are a huge hit in my house. they are always played with. My two dd's also love to play with matchbox cars. My brother gave the girls all his old cars and they drive them all over the house everyday. They use our wood floors as lanes and the carpeted areas are parking lots.

Legos and Playmobil here...my kids have always loved them, taken really good care of them and continue to play with them to this day and my older son is 12!

Our wooden train set. They are really expensive, but we only had to buy the starter set and then our families added to it each birthday and Christmas. It not only got played with each and every day for over 4 years (between two boys) but it kept down on the other "junk" that they would have gotten as gifts instead. It is the one toy I will not get rid of - I pull it out whenever younger kids come over to play.

The Little People playsets. My DD will be turning 6 soon and she is still playing with them.

And I agree - the building toys: Legos, blocks, and Lincoln Logs are all good bets.

legos and cars are always played with here. We have two little peoples play sets and the 18 month old is starting to play with them now.
Gameboys are a life saver-they were christmas gifts. I do not like the kids to play lots of video games. but the game boys are super nice for long car trips.
The boys are star wars nerds thanks to their dad-an even bigger star wars nerd. So they have tons of star wars figurines that they play with daily.

The thing that gets played with the most in this house and causes the most squeals of delight.....CARDBOARD BOXES and BUBBLE WRAP . Universal appeal across my big age gaps.

Legos are a favorite here, but for trips we couldn't live with out the leapfrogs!!! My parents bought each of the girls one for Christmas...now every once and a while, they'll bring them a new game for it. Another thing that my girls LOVE LOVE LOVE is plastic dinosaurs and animals. That is almost a daily thing for them to do my 3 year old will start right after breakfast most days- she sets up little "houses" and play yards for her animals and dinosaurs!

My DS was just a bit too old to get into Little People, but I can see the appeal!

Besides the old standbys, Legos/Lincoln Logs, we like the Imaginex stuff -- pirates, castles, and mostly all interchangable. We also love Playmobil. A lot of times, the Playmobil guys play with the Imaginex guys in the castle . . . .
