I've been dreading this task, but I finally pulled out all the clothes stuffed into DH's closet. I had two large rubbermaid containers crammed full of clothes he had grown out of.

The upswing of this is I am finally able to see what I have picked up at thrift stores and garage sales in larger sizes. I am pleased to say that I don't think I'll have to buy anything but winter boots, shoes and a winter jacket. I have lots of everything else.

If I hadn't cleaned out I bet I would have continued to shop because I didn't know what was in there!!

I also live in an area where there is a difference between a 'summer' and a 'winter' wardrobe. I love switching over my closet from season to season. Opening the winter closet is like Christmas morning!

When running errands I can honestly say, "I don't need any more clothes." It is wonderful. That one phrase has become my mantra.

I recently did this in our kitchen and our bathrooms. I pulled out everything from under the sinks and I was shocked at all of cleaning supplies and beauty supplies that I had gotten when they were on sale. Seriously, I don't think I need to buy any cleaners or any lotions, shampoos, soaps, etc.....for a really long time.

I think sorting through closets and drawers is a great idea because sometimes you really foget what you already have.

I did this last week. Before I went shopping I pulled out the bin of clothes that were hand me downs from a cousin or clothes I had pre-bought in a larger size and my dd's closet is full and ready to start school! It was actually fun to hang it all up and now all I have to buy is shoes and we are ready! This actually simplified things for me and did not cost alot at all.

Thank you for this post! You've inspired me to go thru the pantry and make a list of everything I have. I'm a notorious packrat when it comes to a good deal on stuff we eat but not quite so good at putting the oldest in the front to use first. I bet this will save me quite a bit of time and money after I'm done.

I have bins in the attic ... i need to go up there and switch over the clothes. When I pack away the clothes for next summer I always have a bin that says "Might fit next summer" that way I do not have to look at sizes since some 3T shorts are as wide as some 4T and length really doesn't matter.

I do this when I need a gift also. I look around to see what kind of gift basket I can make from what I have. I buy baskets at yard sale or thrift stores and put them away , then when I need a gift I raid the pantry and make a nice snack pack or picnic basket. Last yr I made a gaint basket of breakfast goods like jams , syprups and little packs of pancake and biscuit and gravy mix. SHE asked me where I bought it becuase she wanted one to give to her neighbor.
