Well, I tried it, and don't like it. First of all, it's a huge pain in the rear to cut a paper towel roll in half. Maybe I shouldn't have used a serrated knife, but it tears the edges up like crazy while you're sawing. Actually, I had to cut the roll into thirds because I wanted to store the wipes in my wipes-warmer, and a half-roll wouldn't fit into it. (I even called Bounty to suggest to them to sell 1/2-length rolls for those frugal moms who want to make their own wipes... and they wouldn't even give me any coupons to thank my for my suggestion!) So now when I pull the wipes out they are too long and thin, with shredded edges that leave paper-towel lint on DS's bum. I suppose it would be a little better if I had cut the roll in half, because then I could easily fold each wipe in half to make a 2-ply sheet with a little more area to it. But I didn't have any other containers I could use for that. Anyway, I don't think I'm going to do this again... I think I'm going to try just using cloth wipes (much to the horror of DH! ). I am going to get more baby wash cloths, make the same water/baby oil/baby wash solution and put them in the wipes-warmer. Even cheaper than paper towels!

Awww, I'm sorry to hear that. Its worked fine for me (after I learned about the rust in my metal coffee can). I know you can use it on cloth to make reusable wipes. I just didn't bother suggesting it (I have an agenda against reusable things soiled with poo). Anyways, that's too bad. Wish it woulda been more helpful.

I never had a problem with them, I used a big rubbermaid container and I never had a wipe warmer just tore them off the half roll.

They do make those Bounty 1/2 sheets but it might take forever to fold each one in half.

Sorry it didn't work for you.

I use cloth wipes, but I use actual cloth wipes, not paper towels. I don't store mine in any solution at all. I just wet them as I use them. THey clean great!

You should add vinegar or tea tree oil to stop the mold.

Yeah, I'm definitely thinking about going in that direction (and have some store-bought wipes on hand for when DH changes the diapers, and to go in the diaper bag ). I like the smell of the solution, though, which is why I'm thinking of doing that.

Try using an electric knife. When my kids were little that's what I did and it worked like a charm. Good luck!
