Shop opposite seasons. In the winter shop for shorts, sandals, tank tops. In the summer shop for winter coats or raincoats, snow shoes. Not many people shop for jackets when its 90+ out, but thats when you have a good selection and can get them very inexpensive.

I prefer to buy my son his jackets this way, so if he happens to misplace it at school and gets lost - its really not a big deal since I get his jackets for $5 or less. (he hasnt lost a jacket yet)

my friends and i make an event out of thrift store shopping. sometimes we just go to have a good time. there's some stuff that cracks us up, and of course there's also really cute clothes that are very one of a kind.

i was thinking thrift stores would be a good place to buy a lot of kid's clothing, anyways, because if anything happens it's no big deal.
