I've saved a lot of money on kids clothes by buying things that can be worn by a boy or a girl.
For instance, I buy turtlenecks in sex neutral colors - red, blue, green, black, etc. That way I can save the boys clothes for my daughter.
Also, I buy jeans that are basic. The boys can wear them, and, if they last that long, I can add a "girly" iron on and use them for Em, too.
I have also learned to buy things for my daughter that can go from one season to the next. I buy sundresses for summer that can easily be worn over a turtleneck for fall. I pair her summer miniskirts with tights for fall/winter.
Sometimes I can find tops that can be purchased a size larger than I would usually get (I roll the sleeves up). Again, I've added more time to the usefulness of the item.
I buy things that layer easily, that can be easilty altared (I don't sew, so it has to be easy) or that can be repurposed. This saves a ton on our clothing budget!
