Keep a medical journal for each family member. This should include a record of doctor visits, immunizations, tests, medications, dental visits, hospitalizations, allergies, etc. This way you will have all the information in one place and may prevent tests/immunizations from being duplicated or performed too early (before the insurance will cover the procedure again). You will be able to tell which medicines worked better for certain illnesses/condtions. Plus, all the information is in one place. No rummaging through medical receipts for immunization dates for school and so forth. Save time and money!

This is also great to have in case of a natural disaster so keep it someplace safe with other important documents. I know we feel like we don't need it because it's all in our chart at the dr's office, but what if the office is lost during a disaster. Mistakes can be made too, so it never hurts to have your own copy.

I ask for a copy of ech childs shot record each time they get new shots. I keep them with the other important papers (baptism cert, birth cert, ss card, etc) so that when we need that info, I know right where it is. Also, when we evacuate, I have everything in one place.

I like the idea of a record of illnesses. I lose track of who had what when and what we treated them with.
