What can you do on the weekend to wind down, relax, and have a good time without spending a lot? Post your ideas here?

-Borrow a movie from the library, pop some popcorn and have "movie" night
-Invite another family over to share a meal. If you have makings for spaghetti, ask that they bring a dessert
-If the weather is nice, go to a park and go on a hike or a nature walk

We're doing movie night tonight. That was one of the ideas I had for this weekend.

Today we're going to the mall and using the child play area to help the boys release some energy! It's great to have the mall so close on cold and snowy days when we can't go outside. They love it! (and I promise I won't be tempted to shop)

Tomorrow is church day so that will take up our morning, then in the afternoons we veg and play board games, computer games and just chill out! Sundays are also crockpot days so it's nice to have it cooking all day long with little to no effort! I don't normally follow a recipe I just pile in a bunch of fresh veggies and meat, add some spices and hope for the best! LOL

Our local paper always lists activities throughout the area: historical events, exhibits, celebrations, concerts. It's a great resource to find free (or frugal) entertainment!

We just finished painting 2 bedrooms this week and so this weekend we are going to start painting the kids bathroom. It is amazing how paint can transform a room, and it is so inexpensive! DH and I have been really motivated to get some things crossed off our home "to do" list!

Once in a while on weekends, I will do a beauty shop for the girls, where I wash & do a deep conditioning on their hair,(while they are laying across my kitchen counter by my sink & I use a bath pillow for comfort, using warm towels from the dryer) massage their scalp, blow dry & style or curl their hair, then paint finger & toe nails, giving them a facial, just lotion for the younger ones. I really have alot of fun doing this for them & having six girls this can take a while but it's funny how much they all enjoy this even the older ones. Most of the time we do this on Sunday's so when we are done we all go into each girls closet & pick out school clothes for the week.

Today we are going to the $1 movie. It is just Emily and I so it will be cheap to get in. We will get a popcorn and drink to share since they really only make money off the snacks. I think my mom and 3 nephews are going to meet us there.

I bought a pack of cards yesterday (well I actually used my gift card so no out of pocket money was spent), so we will play card games.
The boys each have a big fat workbook according to their ages. We like to do a few pages on the weekends.
They also got new coloring books and a bingo game for Christmas. So we will have to for sure try out the bingo game.
I think that they still have one more new movie from Christmas that they havent watched, so we can do a movie night too.

If a vehicle wasn't a problem for me. I would take the kids to the library. In the summer there are so many free things to do in town, and it isn't that big of a town, so I imagine bigger cities have even more things to do. I try to take them to all the free and cheap stuff I can during the summer. During Spring and Fall, a local Movie theater does free movies Sat and Sun at 10 and 11 am. We have a movie theater in town that costs 3 dollars. I would really love to get some more board games, they are bored with the ones they have, except maybe life and monopoly, but I hate playing those.
I pretty much just read at the moment. The kids watch movies, play the playstation, and play online. They don't like to go out in the cold much, so winter really stinks. If they have a little money, they will take the bus to the mall.
When the weather gets nicer, I might forget what they look like, they want to be out of the house all the time.

What a great idea! I'm sure you're creating special memories for your girls in the process, too.

Library books are great especially if you can get ones that teach you something new. You spend time reading the book to learn and then you have a new talent to work on too!

Depending on the weather you could go for a drive and look at the scenery or a walk. Of course driving uses some gas...

Dig out old family videos or photo albums and look back on them. Its fun to remember what things and people were like then.

Pull out a cookbook and see if you can find a new recipe you would like to try. Make it a family affair and then turn it into a fancy dinner. Dress up in nice clothes, use the good plates, and light some candles.

Have an indoor picnic if its bad weather where you can't get out. We used to do this when I was a kid and I loved it.
