I apologize if this topic has come up before, though i haven't been able to find part of my question so I thought I'd just start a new post.

I was wondering if anyone had ideas on saving with pets. I did see the vet thread, though I don't think with medicine and vets there is much room for saving. Though I do wonder what people do with meals, treats, toys, and fun. I have contemplated making my own dog food, though feel that it would take more time and the need to purchase more food that probably would end up costing me more than a large bag of dog food costs. But did want to see if anyone has ideas or things they do with their dogs that decrease the amount of money spent.

I go on to websites like iams.com and sign up for their coupons and free samples. Just this month i recieved over forty five dollars. Yet, it depends on the brand of dog food you use. Not every company is as generous as the others. Plus, check out the free sample forum they sometimes have links for free samples of cans of dog food, treats, etc. Also, the coupon forum is great to browse just in case someone has some coupons they are willing to trade. I hope this helps!

We rescued a 14 lb dog last August 2007...because we rescued, we got a coupon for a 22 lb bag of food from Pedigree, and after signing up for all the "freebies" with coupons, etc., truly, I have yet to pay for dog food. We got a lot of $5 coupons and used those on the 4 lb bags and got them for free. I am using a $3 coupon for Kibbles n bits this week at Rite Aid where it is on sale for $3.49...so sign up for coupons and shop the sales. Good luck.

We also rescued a pup. How did you go about getting a coupon for free food?

Thanks for all the information. I never really thought about the actually purchasing the smaller bags with coupons than purchasing the larger bags. I will have see though if this is cheaper for us. We have 2 dogs a rottie and pug which is why we buy the largest bag for hard dog food. So I'll have to check out the difference.
