what kind of books can they read...what i mean is...can it be any book from home/friend/library/borrowed...
or do they have to read from an "approved" list of books?

They can read any book they like. I think it needs to be age appropriate though. I'm bummed they don't get two books like we did last year and with two kids we ended up with 4 free books!!! I loved it and so did they!!!
