Ok here's my plan......

I do all the big picnics in my family and I wanna do a REALLY FUN 4th of July picninc.....

I wanna have lots of carnival type games for the kids.......

one I am gonna do is the dart toss.....we have a big board I am gonna attach balloons too....certain ones will have tags in them...bust one w/a tag and you get a prize.

We're gonna have a 3 legged race etc.

I need some other great ideas!!!!!Whatcha think?????

We just went to a picnic for DH's work they had a bean bag toss - you can decorate a piece of foam core and cut holes in it (or use plywood). They also had a basketball toss - used one of the Fisherprice basketball hoops.

I just looked up carnival games on family fun and found the following:
INSTANT CARNIVAL BOOTHS
Carnival booths need not be elaborate. Consider these, all made from everyday items:

Basketball Shooting (draw a line on the driveway, 3 shots per ticket)

Ball Toss (toss 3 softballs into a basket, win a prize)

Putting Challenge (borrow Dad's putter and putt returner)

Guess the number of jelly beans or animal crackers in the jar (and win them all!)
Quarterback Test (throw a football through a hanging hula hoop)

MYSTERY BOX
Do you have the courage to place your hands in the mystery box and identify what lies within?

HOT DOG VENDOR
Get 'yer Hot Dogs! Well, that's what you'll be saying when you're decked out like a real life Hot Dog Vendor in your backyard.

PHOTO BOARD
Stick your head in these fun yet "tamed" photo boards and take some memorable snapshots of your day at the great backyard carnival!

Treats
BALLOON CUPCAKES
What's a carnival without balloons and sweets? To prevent this snafu from happening, why not have the best of both worlds in one confectionary creation called, well, balloon cupcakes.

Games
HORSE RACE
Add some western flair to your carnival by having this horse race and western themed prizes.

STAR SEEKER
Like a cross between roulette and pinball, star seeker is near irresistable.

PENNY PITCH
Don't be a Penny Pincher, be a Penny Pitch-er and play this simply addicting carnival game.

for more info go to familyfun.com and search for carnival games - most of the above have more info and links that didn't copy with the rest of the info.

Good luck it sounds like a lot of fun.

On the dart toss, careful what you use. We had one last weekend at a community thing, he originaly used styrofoam, balloons wouldn't stay. Then they put up plyboard and the darts wouldn't stick, in fact it dulled the darts.

We use corkboard at our church when we do this.

What about a dunking booth? Those can usually be rented relatively cheaply, and with the heat in July, I'm sure plenty of adults will volunteer for a dunk!

We did a carnival b-day party and we did most of the ones listed above (not brave enough for darts) and we had a ring toss. It was hard to find the rings so we used hard plastic bracelets and small water bottles.

We also had a cake walk for little debbie treats.

It sounds like lots of fun.

I like the duckie pond with a special number or star on the prize duckie. Usually you can get a bag of rubber duckies at the dollar store or walmart cheap and just put them into a small kiddie pool. If the kids pick up the duck with the special mark on them they get a prize. My kids love that game at carnivals.

Ring toss games are good too.

Knocking down pins/milk bottles are a good game too. Oriental Trading company has some great carnival type games. That would be a great resource. I think if you spend $60 you get free shipping too. You can get very cute little prizes too in big lot sizes there. I use them all the time for kids party goody bags.

I know 4th of July has already passed but if the theme was a success this year then I'm sure you may want to build on it for next year.
