My brother-in-law dropped off SIX BAGS of hand-me-downs yesterday. I thought he was bringing me just a few things and when I got home there were six garbage bags of clothes in my garage! I'm so excited, especially because my niece has almost the same birthday as my daughter (although 6 years earlier) and they're both tiny so the clothes will be "in season" for her.

What's everyone's opinion on hand-me-downs? Will your kids wear them?

On the one hand they're "used", but on the other hand, they're free, so you can be picky and keep only the good stuff. Plus little kids don't care, and some think it's fun to wear their cousins or big siblings things. I was always excited to get things from my much older cousin, especially since she had expensive clothes, like Guess shorts (I still remember those!)

I hope you guys won't think I'm nuts for storing clothes my daughter won't wear for 5 years. I also have boy clothes infant-size 8. There is a big gap between M and her older cousins, but more will be on the way, and we have the space to store it, even if it's for future cousins.

I LOVE hand me downs! Nothing wrong with them imho.

I have a great nephew who is two years older than my oldest Ds. I frequently store items for a year or more. If there are some things in the donations that I know I won't use, I consign them or donate them. My niece has good taste and is willing to pay more for boys clothes than I do, so there's lots of name brand stuff in there.

We have two other friends who give us stuff too (we have three boys). One neighbor's son is in between my boys in age, but he's a big kid so his clothes get divided up between my three. Some are just too big, so they end up getting consigned for the most part since the mom, too, has good taste and buys a lot of Land's End stuff.

I am always greatful for hand me downs. My boys think it's cool, especially since it gets them 'cool' clothes that I'm not willing to buy them unless I happen to find them on the clearance rack due to cost.

I love hand me downs! I never get any for my 2 daughters, but my sister has 2 boys and she saves all their clothes for my DS. She has great taste and buys alot of really nice quality clothes. I feel fortunate

My brother brought me 12 bags of hand me downs when I was pregnant with Bob, my living room floor was covered. It was 13 years worth of boy clothes! I didn't keep them all because I had no where to put them, but did keep the first few sizes. I have up to 4T right now and Bob is 2T-3T. I say, if you have the storage keep them!

I love hand me downs. Unfortunately, we got very few for the boys, but for my daughter, we got tons! Sure, I give some to Goodwill because I don't like them, but I've found some really nice things in hand me downs. And we've also gotten a lot of play clothing from there too.

Right now my oldest son is a size 4, and I have up to size 6. I save everything too, because I'm not sure if we're done having children or not. I would never want to have to re-buy all that stuff!

I love hand me downs. I'm the one who has the oldest kids in my family and in my circle of friends, so whenever I happened to get hand me downs, it was awesome. I saved my oldest kids clothes for the next sibling...until my youngest got as big as my middle one and now we hand everything down to my friend.

I love handme downs. When trace was born, my cousin passed me down clothes from my baby cousin and Trace wore them all. Most of them now have gotten worn out but Blake still wears some of the shirts.
The only thing now is since they moved away, we have no one to pass us clothes and since Trace and Blake are both the same size, I just pass their stuff to a neighbor or take it to the pregnancy center.

Hand-me-downs are wonderful! My niece is 6 weeks older than my oldest DD but she is two sizes bigger. So we get all her outgrown clothes. My SIL's neighbor also gave us clothes from her twins that are about a year older than my youngest DD and a friend who's daughter is a year younger than my oldest DD gives us her clothes and they are all getting stored for our youngest DD. Saves so much and our DD's have nice clothes to wear! Too bad we don't know anyone with boys our DS' ages.

i love hand me downs. there is nothing wrong with them. i get girls clothes from my husbands cousin and my girlfriend from work. my sister gives my boys clothing. i sort and store them acording to size. i learned my lesson to keep everything organized because nothing is worse than finding that you had a whole box of 2t's and now your son is in 3t.

LOVE them! Dh's boss has boys a bit older than ours and we get all of her boys' outgrown clothes, some of which still have tags attached. I'd love to find someone with a girl who'd be willing to pass down clothes to us too
