Growing up, hand-me-downs and hand-me-overs were a fact of life. It was hard enough when a cousin would comment on how what you were wearing used to be theirs.
But I remember at least one time, my mom got something from either a yard sale or Goodwill, and a classmate recognized it, even pointing out either a flaw or stain hidden in the back. I remember wishing the floor would open up for me, as it became a joke. I was in grade school.
Anything like that ever happen to you, or do you ever worry about that?

I never had hand-me-downs as there was a large age gap between my sister and me, but about 95% of my clothes did come from second hand stores. The second hand stores we went to where in another town so I never had to personally deal with kids saying that I had something of theirs.
Now since there was only about 2 years difference between my nieces and me they did get my clothes and as far as I know nobody every said anything to them about what they wore and we all went to the same school, so if somebody did say something I would of known.
It could also be because we went to a small school district and a huge percentage of the students wore hand-me-downs or second hand store clothing.

I was the oldest child and there were no cousins or friends kids' close to my age to get hand-me downs from so I never had that happen to me. But poor DH was the youngest of 6 and always wore their hand-me downs, even his sisters. His mom even made him wear a girl's sweater with flowers on it for his school picture one year!

I always wore my sisters hand me downs and never had a problem. Everyone I knew wore hand me downs if they were available. My boys wear hand me downs all the time and think nothing of it. I used to have someone at church that gave me things for my oldes ds. He would see the boy at school and they both thought it was cool that he was wearing the boys' old clothes.

I always wore hand-me-downs growing up. They went from my mom's friend's two girls, then to me, then my sister, then back to my mom's friend for her youngest two girls. I don't really remember getting too many new clothes, until I got my first job and I could by them myself.

I went to a private school so had to wear a uniform. I was grateful to wear anything that wasn't blue or white
There are times when I shop in thrift stores for my DD and I'll see something that DD used to own. The funny thing is, I didn't donate those items to that thrift store. Someone I know must, though. I always get a little thrill that the item has 'be around the block'. Pass it on. Pass it on.
Whenever I'm wearing something re-cycled, if anyone dares to comment about owning the same item - or having owned the same item - I simply reply, "Well, we both have good taste."

I don't remember that happening, but I do remember a few other embarrassing clothing problems. I had a couple pairs of jeans that looked exactly the same. Both of the pairs of jeans had a boot on the pocket. I was teased at the bus stop one day because the girl thought I was wearing the same pants as the day before. Also, remember the socks boys wore with the strips on the top. Well, they made them for girls too, just pastel colors instead. I wore them and got teased at Vacation bible school for wearing boys socks.

My sister & I always wore hand-me-downs & some thrift store clothes, we never had any problems with it, actually the girls that we got the clothes from were girls that we looked up to and we were excited to wear their old clothes!!
I get hand-me-downs for my ds from a friend of mine's son and my ds loves knowing that he's wearing "Johnny's" hand-me-downs, he thinks its cool!!

I never got hand me downs (since I was the oldest girl!).
As for my girls- I don't really have any luck in the clothing department for my oldest at Thrift stores, yard sales for my oldest- there is a consignment store that is not in this area that I occasionally get something for her- so we have no issues on that yet. My youngest gets a ton of hand me downs, thrift stores and yard sale clothing- but she will just be starting Kindergarten this year so there is no issue with that yet!
