We tell the boys we have plenty of ice cream at home and they are more than welcome to have some when we get there/go inside. So far this works. They are Hoodsie Cup fiends so I should probably stock up on those :-)
Where on earth do you find something on that freakin truck for $1.50!?!?!!? Its always $3 or $4.

My older DDs just use their own money if they don't want what's in the freezer. That way they have to decide if it's worth the money, since I don't think it is. Not worth the fight!

$3 or $4 wow I had no idea they had gotten so expensive - I have been hearing the truck and was thinking about letting DS get something but not for that price - MIL taught DS about them one weekend and now he wants them whenever he hears it. I like the idea of stocking up on a few favorites and pulling them out instead of going broke from the ice cream truck.

We have never gotten from the ice cream truck. When I was little, I remember my grandma doing it once. I always tell the kids that I can take that money and go to the store and get 3times as much for the price I would have to pay for 3 kids. So, even though I get the occasional question about getting from the ice cream truck, we dont do it. Our ice cream man never comes around on hot days anyway. It seems they show up on the cool-colder days. I know...haha...we laugh at it. But it is sad that they had to practically triple their prices which I am sure really hurt their business and took what little bit of enjoyment that the kids had away for the most part nowadays. Just my 2 cents.

This probably won't work with most of your kids, but I told Maggie it was a "music truck" when it came by the other day. Of course, she wanted to go find the "boosbick" truck for half an hour afterward, but she didn't want to buy anything! We tried it with a friend at a playdate today and she bought it too.

Of course, I'm nice and gave her a 10 cent popsicle from the freezer when we got home.

We have an ice cream truck in our town, but the kids have never asked to get anything from it thankfully. I've heard this one is very expensive. I just let them pick out a treat at the grocery store every now and then when they want an ice cream treat.

I guess I'm on major "pedophile awareness" mode. It does make me a bit paranoid sometimes.
Mine and the surrounding towns no longer have an ice-cream truck for this very reason. Not that we were paranoid of who might be in the truck...but because of who was actually in the truck and of a few incidences right up that alley. Court ordered out and there has been no replacement in the last 8 or so years since it all happened.

Should we happen to get an ice-cream man again, should they want an ice-cream, which on a limited basis is fine I think, certainly not every day, it is going to be a requirement that dh or myself accompany them. I remember running to the next street over by myself when I was like 7 to go catch the truck, crazy days haha

Not only do we have the traditional "ice cream truck" that drives around the neighborhood, we also now have a gentleman that walks around the neighborhood with an "ice cream cart". He rings a bell when he pushes his cart down the street.

My kids rarely get anything from either one. If they do, they have to spend their own money (treats are around $1.00-$1.50 each around here).

I tell them I can buy ice cream and popsicles for much cheaper and they get can get more.

On a side note, DH was raised in Colorado and had never seen an ice cream truck until he moved here. Apparently, they didn't have them in the small city he grew up in.

Oooh, we had that in CA, selling those delicious Mexican fruit bars. I miss those so much.

Ok my friend gave me hard time the other day because my girls have never gotten anything from the ice cream truck. Her girls regularly get ice cream. I just don't like the looks of some the trucks that come by. We do treat them to frozen yogurt a couple times a month.
