We have FIVE ice cream trucks that come down our street on a daily basis!
Mr. Softee, Dipin' Dots, Jack & Jill, Good Humor, and some other one.

Luckily, my kids are too young to know what they are, and we call it a music truck too. Downside is mommy loves softserve so the kids will at least know what Mr. Softee is before too long. I can get a cone w/ jimmies for $2, which isn't that bad considering you can't get softserve at the grocery store.

I should check out our local ice cream parlor & see how much they charge. Might just justify going for a 1/2 mile walk if there is some yummy ice cream in it for me & the kids

We have an ice cream truck that comes through every Sunday afternoon. Last year I let the kids get treats a few times but the prices were killing me! This year I have refused the ice cream truck and offer the treats I make--homemade chocolate chip cookie ice cream sandwiches and homemade chocolate cookie ice cream sandwiches. The kids like these better than the kind from the ice cream truck and I can make a batch (about 40 sandwiches) for the price of 1 1/2 treats from the truck. I also, at the end of last summer, when the ice cream truck came around, suggested that if the kids really wanted a treat, they should use their own money. No one was interested when they had to spend their own cash! Funny how that works, huh?

When I did the spending freeze week for the FTJ I was so nervous about the ice cream man. I told my kids we are not getting him this week and they were good. I bought them boxes of popsicles (on sale) that they liked and we made it throught the week. My son asked me the week after "Mommy are we still not spending this week?"

We also have a jar of extra change, as well! My kids LOVE the ICM and they can't get the kind they like in the store (I have checked). We limit the amount and they have to have "good behavior" to get it. Good luck to you this summer!

**I do have to say, the ICM is in my fondest memories of childhood too!

we just let the kids pick out ice cream treats at the store. Then when the truck comes by they run downstairs to the freezer and pick something. both my boys understand that it wasy overpriced and we can get the same treats at the store for less.

my girlfriend lives in a town 5 miles south of here and the city now charges the ice cream truck to come into their city and sell so they no longer drive thru her town. I wish they would do that in my small town we have some kids here whos parents can't afford to be buying the ice cream.
