Do you ever feel guilty for having too much food stock piled?

I have a major case of the guilts right now. I decided to go through the freezer and pantrys and make a list of what we have. My mind is boggled at how much is waiting to be eaten.

We are a small family of two adults and two toddlers and I swear I have enough meat to feed us for 3 months at least. Thankfully none of it has been there too long so we will eat it.

I have enough rice and pasta to do many many meals. All I should need over the next while is fresh veggies and dairy.

I know that we are so incredibly lucky to have the means to put food on the table but I still can't help feeling bad for some reason.

Suggestions? Anyone else feel the same way?

No, I never feel guilty for stockpiling!

I stock pile for several reasons:

1. So I don't have to go to the grocery store every week
2. I buy stuff when it is on sale and I buy several of the same items
3. I stockpile the stuff I use on a continuous basis
4. I stockpile so that I can contribute to our church pantry
5. I stockpile so that The weeks that we have to pay more bills out of our paycheck I can just go to the pantry/freezer and feed my family healthy & delicious meals.

I stockpile to save my family money, therefore I never feel bad about it.

I only feel guilty if something gets tossed because I overlooked it and it ruined.

Honestly no. The only time I feel a smidge guilty is when I buy out a store of a super awesome sale item...I scored HUGE on cookies last weekend and couldn't control myself!!!!!!

Me too! I cleaned out my pantry yesterday and I was so excited that the only thing I threw away was a free sample of cereal that nobody was ever going to eat. I would feel guilty if I was throwing out food, but I consider a stockpile a means to save my family time and money, so no guilt for me.

I do not feel guilty because we worked hard at getting what we have. Hubby works hard to make the money for me to find the better deals to stock up on. We both know we will come to rely on it sooner or later, so therefore...no guilt. I have enough to do us for about 2 months, minus milk and maybe bread and eggs.

NO I don't feel guilty at all either. I'm actually pretty proud that I can feed my family well, and healthy for very little. I stockpile and that has come in VERY handy on an occassion or 2. This is my job as the non working parent in this household, to make sure we have what we NEED without breaking the bank.

Like Mel, I feel more guilty when we waste food.

Well I guess I am the minority on this one!

I too believe that saving money is one of my many responsibilities as a SAHM. All of what I stock piled was on sale so at least I know it isn't a form of hourding.

We also give to charity etc. so I know it isn't a greedy response. I guess I should just thank my lucky stars that we are able to provide.

I don't have to stick to a weekly budget so maybe that's where some of my guilt lies. Who knows, but what I do know is I don't take it for granted and am forever grateful to my current curcumstances. Who knows when it will change.

Thanks for your thoughts.

I'm curious. Do you feel bad because others are going without?

Truthfully, in the U.S. and I'll toss Canada in as well as I see you are from Canada, I honestly do not see how anyone can go hungry. There are food banks, soup kitchens, and churches. There are free meals for children through schools. So many of us can grow gardens. In my area you can hunt. I know it happens but, for the life of me, I cannot understand how that is possible. If you're talking about 3rd world nations, that I can understand, but I'm not sure how I can change that.
