Definately IMO. It just tastes better. I don't find it all that time consuming, I make all my own pasta sauces and freeze portions for later use - so I always have marinara or meat sauce on hand for dishes like lasagna, baked ziti etc The cheese part (ricotta) is so easy to make at home and all you need to do is assemble. Bing, bang...boom. Done!

I've never tried the store bought kind because I can't imagine how it could taste like homemade. I don't find making lasagna to be that time consuming or expensive. We all love lasagna so I usually make it a couple times a month.

I don't find it that much more expensive to make than spaghetti. The only additional cost is the extra cheeses. It takes a while to make, but with just the two of us, we eat it for dinner two nights, take it for lunch two days, and freeze the rest, so we get at least eight meals each out of one pan.

Wow I never would have thought a thread on lasagna would have so many different responses.

Time wise I don't mind because I usually get several meals out of it when I make it. Cost wise I don't mind IF I can get the dang ricotta cheese on sale. Why is that stuff so expensive?

I rarely make it because it is such a pain and takes so long to make. Things have to be quick around here. I don't buy it either. Can't bring myself to pay that much for something I can make inexpensively. So, we just don't eat lasagna very often.

I think it is worth it. There is only one lasagna that tastes as good as homemade, and that is Stouffers. If I had a bigger freezer I would make up a few at a time more often for the crockpot. I tried that once, and it was great to have a lasagna in the freezer that I could pop out and throw in the crockpot.

Yes it probally costs a bit more. But I loathe the taste of store bought lasagne. Homemade tastes way better - I also make fresh pasta for it - which is yummy yummy.
If im going to make lasagne - I make sure i make a whole lot so I can freeze the rest. And you can put in other ingredients as well which make it more healthier and taste even better.

Thanks, now you made me really want some. guess whats going to have to be for supper on sunday now.....

Homemade lasagna is definetly worth the effort. I try to always make 2 when I make it, that way the effort is even more worthwhile! I make 3 different lasagna varieties: Meat lasagna, veggie lasagna, and ham and asparagus lasagna(usually with Easter leftovers). My family loves all 3!

It costs the same as cottage cheese here, which surprised me.
