When you know you are having a party at your house, a birthday party maybe, how do you save on the foods?? Loading up on chips and stuff, can get pricey, so how do you cut costs?

I would say planning is a big help. For instance, I decided about a week ago what weekend I was having ds4's bday party. So I have between now and Nov 7 to stock up on food and supplies. I buy everything ahead of time that I can; chips, crackers, paper plates, etc. Than for the perishable foods, I wait to buy those a few days before. Beings I can spread it out as far as buying things, than it really doesnt seem to be so bad. Plus in that time I can wait for sales too.
Now if it is short notice than I would suggest not going too crazy with food.
Keeping it simple, should keep it cheaper.
Generic chips and crackers taste just like the name brand ones. Pour everything into bowls and no one will know that they are eating generic.
