Ugh I hate hearing that, cuz there IS food, but nothing they want to EAT. There is fruit in the fridge, they can make a sandwich, or pop some popcorn in the microwave. But because there isn't anything handy, or premade, they are complaining.
What things do you keep around so you don't hear that so much??

I HATE this phrase! DH uses it all the time. There are tons of things to eat YOU just have to take a moment to figure out what you want and fix he. He just wants there to suddenly be food.
You just ran across one of my petpeeves Missy.

I dont hear it too often but I try to avoid it. I hate hearing it also. I try to keep snacks available for them to tie them over to the next feast of theirs.

There is no phrase on earth that will get me to ignore a person faster than "there's nothing to eat" (unless it's true, sometimes is).....second only to whining, which I guess it is a form a whining.

I don't hear it from the kids, I hear it from DH, and I'm sick of it. If he wants crappy, expensive , prepared snacks he can buy them himself. Usually when there is something there he'll ignore it till I finally let the kids have it and then all of a sudden he wants to know where it went, (durr it sat there 3 weeks, was I supposed to just let it rot??) or he'll open a box of say, crackers, and eat them till there's just a few left, and tell everyone they can't have any, then when he finally get around to eating them again he complains they're stale. Sorry.. drifted off there for a minute.
If the kids do complain I just tell them they can bake cookies or something, if they're really serious they'll do it, if not they wander off.

I dont think that I have ever heard them say that. If they did, I would probably ignore them. I always have something that they can munch on in between meals.
cheese cut into slices or cheese sticks
fruit cups, applesauce or jello cups
yogurts or go gurts
fruit-apples, bananas, grapes and oranges are always on hand
lunch meat-my kids like to eat rolled up lunch meat
crackers-all different kinds
microwave popcorn
hot pockets-breakfast, pizza or ham and cheese
salad, veggies and dip
Some of those snacks are premade or prepackaged but it makes it easier for me. I dont have to stop what I am doing to open a can of fruit (If all three kids want it, I would have to open two) or container of yogurt (no one likes the same flavor of yogurt on the same day) and dish it out. Besides I never pay full price for 75% of my list of snacks.

If I had a nickle for everytime someone here said that I would be one rich woman. Half my house are picky eaters (my step-children.) They seem only to want to eat things I don't have stock piled. One week they love pop-tarts the next week they only like the ones I don't have (of course, also the ones that are not on sale!)

I'm guilty of thinking it. It seems like no matter what I have in the house I'm craving something I don't have. But I don't whine about it to anyone.

I hear it all the time too! I give ideas like popcorn, cheese and peanut butter, apple slices with caramel sauce, cinnamon toast, bagels with jelly, nachos, grilled cheese!
