Have you ever ordered one entree and just split it with the person you are with when you eat out? Did you have to pay a small amount for an extra plate?

We do that when we go to a place that serves huge portions. We've never been charged for an extra plate, and we always double the tip, which still costs us less than two entrees would.

When my girl friend and I got out to lunch we do tend to do that. Never been asked to pay extra for the plate, we would if they asked us to. For us its even more about portions than cost

No...the places we go, the entrees aren't huge to begin with and they also charge for 'sharing' a single entree, and it's not a small amt IMO, although I can't recall exactly at the places we frequent, but it's definately more than a few dollars.

We're more apt to get appetizers and drinks as opposed to entrees if we're not very hungry.

We do this a lot, too.

But, we also tend to like the same thing, so DH and I split meals often. We also have 3 kiddos, but only order 2 kids meals, because only one can eat a whole kids meal and the other two eat like birds. Most places around here will even give us an extra kids drink, no charge (if one is included in their kid's meal price). I've never had anyone ever charge for an extra plate.

We've done that at places that serve big portions. I've never heard of charging for an extra plate. And DS never gets his own plate. He always shares with one of us, unless it's something he absolutely won't eat.

I have done this with my kids, my girls love ribs, but the younger one won't eat a whole rack of ribs, so we order the whole rack instead of the half, which usually only costs a couple dollars more and each of us have a half rack and half of the fries-which they always give too many anyways. I have done this with other meals too, we are definitely meal sharers even if we all do order an entree, last week, I got the ribs, and my 16 yr old ordered a steak, and we split them.

We do this all the time, and have never been charged extra.
