Okay- I have my goal for groceries- it is going to sound a little strange though- however bare with me! I only really plan on buying staples (milk, bread, lunchmeat and fresh vegies and fruit), trying to use up most of my stockpile- BUT- this is the time of year when I can get great deals for my stockpile (sounds contradictory don't it?!).

So my plan is to buy only staples and $125 this month to go towards my "fresh" stockpile. That will be tough with all the meat sales and canned vegie sales going on!

I spent $70 on groceries at Walmart and Wonder Bread Outlet. I shouldn't need anything else for this week. Not spending any money on household/personal items this week.

I'm amazed by these numbers... I really need to get my grocery budget down!

I was wondering though - for those of you who seperate out Costco or Sam's from your regular grocery shopping - what is it that you buy at those places? Some of you had a much larger number for these stores and then smaller numbers for groceries. Does this mean the larger amount is for paper towels, toilet paper, cleaning supplies???

Thanks!

I forgot to say what I did at the grocery store the other day. I spent about $46- even though I went over my Budget by $16 that is somewhat okay- they had green tea on sale and DH drinks that while he is working- I bought 3 cases of it so he should be good for the next 2 weeks- I hope!

I am totally interested in joining in on the challenge! We've been keeping track of groceries for awhile now, and it doesn't seem to matter what we are doing. The grocery totals keep going up. We've easily spent $600-900 per month on food costs. We include groceries, dining (take out or eat in at restaurants) and liquor - basically anything that we eat or drink! I told my DH that for that amount we best be living on steak and lobster! I love the idea of using up what we have - heck didn't we all do that in college? We ate what we had b/c we didn't have money to go and buy something else? Why is it so easy now to go spend even if we don't have it?

I am definitely interested in doing this as well Even though I'm working two jobs now and we'll have more money I still don't want to spend a ton of money on groceries. My goal is $100 a week on groceries. I'm working on my menu for the rest of the month now!

My goal is to stick within our grocery budget of $150/month. Hard to do when dh keeps blowing it. LOL!

I'm starting this week. I made a menu for the month, and then made grocery lists for each week. I'm keeping it all in a folder. Then next week I just have to add things we've run out of to my list and all my meal items will already be on there. This week I've used stuff I already have and I'm trying to use things we have for our meals for the rest of the month. I don't really have an exact number, but we've been spending a ton of money at Walmart lately( food and misc, we do all our shopping there, except bread), and going a few times a week. Now I am only going to go once a week. I think when I go on Sun I'll spend about 60-80 for food, diapers and cat food.

You said you have milk in the freezer. Is that regluar milk and how long can you keep it that way? I have never heard to put milk in the freezer.

I thought no one else spent as much money as I do on groceries! I really don't know how I do it either. It just adds up.

I am in on your challenge.

I pledge to spend only $100 per week. Diapers always cost $20 or so, so that is really only $80. But what happeneds when all the sales come out on particular foods my family enjoys? Perhaps I should say I pledge to spend $400 per month.

I question how to do this. I do not want to start eating high carb foods, which tend to be less expensive. I enjoy all the fruits and vegetables I eat, but they are expensive. However, what is more expensive in the long run? A high carb diet which = weight, or a more expensive produce rich diet which = health. Suggestions?
