Wow, good information, but I wish I didn't know all of this now! Really makes me not want to shop at all. YUCK! We have always used a shopping cart cover for our girls, and I swear by it. They almost never have colds, even in the horrible winter months.

Very interesting reading. Kinda gross about the shopping carts. I use an disinfecting wipe. I hope that wipe helps

I always worry about the shopping carts especially at mega-stores with automotive departments -- a WalMart I once worked had a problem with people returning their car batteries in the same shopping carts that people placed their children! There weren't any serious problems but one little girl did get a slight burn on her leg from the battery acid. The store tried to correct the problem but they really didn't have control the carts outside and what people put in them outside of the store.

Some of our Safeways have the antibacterial wipes just inside the door so you can wipe your cart and hands down going in and out (I often feel I have to wash my hands after grocery shopping). However, the one in my "neighborhood" doesn't, which I've asked for.

Trader Joes often doesn't put expiration dates on their food, which is a huge beef for me, because I shop there to be healthy. I have had some quality control issues there, and have had more than one stale cereal box, which I've had from Safeway, but Safeway at least has dates - they just put out of date boxes on the shelf.
