Greetings:
I'm pretty new to this forum, but after reading about the thread on what grocers don't want you to know about ran a shiver through me...(On the uncleanness part). It was an eye-opener to one of the reasons why I garden. At least I KNOW where my produce has been and as I grow organically, there are no pesticides to fear.
Living in a two-bedroom duplex, we are fortunate enough to have a fair sized, fenced-in back yard. Half of it though is in patio. The other half, I have fenced-off for two flower beds and a veggie patch, along with several rose bushes and some container gardening.
We've enjoyed a whole slew of pole green beans this year, along with some "Sweet 100 cherry tomatoes". (This plant is HUGE)!
We're also enjoying the first of the 'pickles' I've planted...(one plant only). I let them develop into cucumbers. Yesterday, although we had no lettuce, I made up a salad of just cucumber slices and cherry tomatoes with a topping of ranch dressing. YUM! It was a BIG salad...very filling and very few calories.
Also, I let my Zuchinni squash get pretty big as well as I make Zuchinni bread and pancakes out of it. Another YUM!
Now, I see some watermelon sprouting. A couple of fair-sized ones growing already. The large tomatoes are starting to show some color now, too. All-in-all, a pretty good garden this year.
Wishing all a happy and SAFE Independence Day!
For those of you who live in the north-central Sacramento Valley of California, like me...it's suppose to hit 111 degrees on the 4th. Be careful!
God bless...
Mary M.
