Hi everyone! I am new to the forums and I am always looking for tips and ideas etc. I don't know if any of you have ever heard of Angel Food Ministries, but they are a organization that you can purchase food for 25.00 a week through churches. I have ordered last month and my mother in law ordered for us this month. The food is not all brand name, but it actually is good. Its just like buying generic at the store, there is some name brand that you do get with it. A week of food feeds a family of 4 for $25.00 then you can buy meat packages for 18.00. If anyone is interested in checking it out the link is http://www.anglefoodministries.com It has really helped us out this past month when hubby was off work for an injury and we were on Short Term Disability only getting 70% of his pay. The great part about this is that everyone qualifies. There is no income guideline etc.

I hope this helps other out.

Susan,
Welcome to Mommysavers!!! We're glad to have you with us.
Thanks for the tip about Angel Food. It's awesome to see a newbie jump right on in and give us hints! Some of us do use Angel Food, but it is SUCH a wonderful organization that I think it's a great thing to mention more than once!
Looking forward to reading more of your posts!

Thank you for the welcome. I think its important to let others know about the program. With the cost of food etc it seems that more than half a paycheck can go to that alone. I know our food bill was 500 or so a month and that was for my husband, 7, 4, 10month old and myself. But, since we have started to use Angel Food we are now only spending about 200. Plus, we were told its ok to switch baby girl to milk since she is growing quite nicely and I don't buy baby food, she has been eating what we eat, just chopped up. So, that has saved extra money as well.

It is my goal to become debt free, I am looking to clear about 35,000 off in the next 3yrs so any help or advice from anyone would be helpful.

Thanks again for the welcome!! I should fix the link it's Angel Food Ministries

I just did Angel Food this month for the first time. I was very impressed with the amt of food I got for $25. A few things I wouldn't normally buy b/c it's pre-packaged (like a frozen pizza or chicken already in fajita marinade), but it helps us a ton now that we are super busy with doctors appts and such (we just found out our baby in utero has several birth defects, so we have to meet with lots of surgeons and get lots of ultrasounds done 2 hrs away ).

Do you normally buy just 1 box or do you stock up? I'm thinking we may buy 2 boxes/month as we get closer to our due date, since DH will be home a lot by himself while I'm in Birmingham with the kids.

I'm a horrible meal planner so I love getting the majority of my meat from AF and working it out from there rather than having to decide what meat to buy (another thing I'm horrible at!)

First, I am so sorry to hear about your baby. I'll be praying for baby's health and he/she continues to develop. I hope the birth defects are not life threatening.....

I've done Angel Food and we just ordered one box and found that the food in it really stretched our grocery budget. We're are starting it up again. We have a family of 5 and it really helped.

I would order it if things were super hard finanacially but I won't if they are not. Maybe I'm just a food snob but I didn't like it. My pork roast was rotten. Alot of the food just didn't seem healthy. It will stretch the budget, though.

We've been doing it for a year. I like many of the items that we receive, but I'm never impressed with their beef cuts...steaks, fillets...and there is too much breaded chicken. It does make our budget stretch, but I don't expect too much from the meats. I like it when we get skinless chicken or bags of IQF chicken, though.

Often we order 2 boxes. I never order the specials because I'm not impressed with the meat cuts.
