I was looking through the Family Homestead website and came across this great recipe for homemade Hamburger Helper. My DH agrees that it tastes 100% better than the kind from the box, PLUS it doesn't have all the bad chemicals and ingredients that are in the box kind. I've been making the Hamburger Stroganoff from the mix.

Homemade Hamburger Helper Mix

There is a recipe for the basic dry mix on the website, plus 2 other recipes for the stroganoff and chili mac. You could use the mix and come up with one of your own. If you do, please post here and let us know the recipe and how it turned out.

Thanks for this. I'm going to play with these recipes to see if I can turn them veggie. I miss my comfort food sometimes.

I haven't tried these recipes yet, but do basically the same thing as hamburger helper meals and leave out the meat all the time. Sometimes I'll add soy protein other times extra veggies. No recipe per se, just what I have on hand. These type meals seem relly flexible when it comes to making them vegetarian.

What would you use in place of meat? I was thinking beans or TVP? Let me know how it works for you. I might like to give it a try.

Oh, I wanted to add that there is powdered milk in the recipe. Do you do dairy? Do they make powdered soy milk?
