Hi,

Just wondering if anyone has suggestions for healthy snacks I can keep in the car i.e. a 'snack box' or 'snack bag'. I find stopping to get snacks for the kids means I spend too much money and they end up with junk food when it should be much healthier.

Thanks,
ET2005

I always have raisins and animal crackers on hand, they stay good for a long time and don't need any special keeping plus it they are a lot better than snack cakes.

I have a snack bowl that can consists of many or a few of these things:

Cheerios
Puffins
raisins
gold fish
pretzels
crackers from TJ multi grain or something
Goldfish
teddy grahams (on very rare occasions)

Snack bowl has a cover and a lid that flaps open.

I always pack a little soft cooler with snacks, especially if we are gonna be running errands for the afternoon. I never leave snacks in the car, but that is a really good idea. I like to take a cooler so that I can also take drinks, I usually take frozen capri suns so that it will keep everything cold. That way I can take them snacks like cheese sticks, apple slices, etc. Here is some of the other things that we take

granola bars
cookies
fruit-apples, oranges, bananas
cheese crackers
cheese sticks
fruit snacks

That is it. I would like some more ideas about what other moms take. My kids arent too big on raisins or trail mix things.

I always have a snack bag in the car. The other day, I noticed that there was so much in the snack bag we could stop for a picnic lunch at the park and eat entirely out of the snack bag. It is insane! We have cookies, cereals, chips, fruit snacks, jerky, granola bars, peanut butter, crackers, and even bottles of water. If it is shelf-stable, it's in the snack bag.

Usually I fill the snack bag with misc leftovers from the snack cabinet. Sometimes I notice nothing in the snack bag is getting eaten. When that happens I'll buy a few extra treats to put in there. That motivates the kids to dig into it again. When the bag seems filled with stuff nobody will eat, we go to the pond and feed the ducks with it.

Thanks everyone - there are some great suggestions there. I'm always trying to have the kids eat healthy snacks but a bit of variety seems to be the key!

I love the idea of frozen Capri-Suns keeping everything else cool - this would be great for a long trip!

I keep a stocked diaper bag in the trunk of my van that has a change of clothes for each of my little ones, diapers, tylenol and etc. there is also cheerios and juice boxes in there. It is sort of an emergency bag. Then every time I leave the house I bring along some sort of snack along, like sliced up grapes, dry cereal, bananas, gerber fruit snacks.

My kids like plain shredded wheat mixed with raisins for a healthy snack. My kids call it "breakfast in a bag", even though they have it for snacks.
