I went grocery shopping on Saturday. It took me 3 hours and I went to 3 different stores, but I got it done. I am using tips from the $200 a month ebook. i think I did pretty good. I spent $110. It breaks down to $30 on meat, $30 for the week and $50 on sale stuff/stocking up. I did decide that I need to add an extra $50 to the budget for tp, paper towels and diapers. Which will still be good for us. I have not done a menu or grocery list for quite a while. I was spending $250-300 a payday on groceries. So to get us down to $250-300 a month is a huge cut back for us.
I have $30 a week left for the next 3 weeks. I am trying the envelope method and have the money in cash at home. Some of the meat I bough will actually last more than a month, so I can stock up next month or spend that money in a different category. We still have a freezer full of beef and chicken that we bought last last year. So that helps alot. I just bought some sausage and ham and a few other things for variety.

What is this $200 a month ebook? It sounds like something I need to look at.

It's on budget101.com It was posted here a couple weeks ago. It has some good ideas and will really help us cut back. That is until next summer when we have a kid eating baby food and we will have to add more to the budget for that.

Regarding added expense of baby food...You can save a ton of money by getting a babyfood grinder. My 4 children ate just about everything we did by grinding it up. Add broth/stock to meats (or even homemade applesauce, which my kids loved) to get them the right consistancy. I tried to cook with no salt/strong spices and we just added them at the table if we wanted them. Give it a try!
