I've been hearing this for a bit now. I'm not worried though. My girls love milk but I bake with powdered milk and if it goes up I'm ok with not purchasing it. It's not meant for us anyhow. I'll just up our dairy intake.

It stresses me out a little bit, not just the milk price going up, but the fact that EVERYTHING is going up!!! We have had to cut down on our milk intake, before milk got up to $4/gallon, my dh made a bowl of cereal and chocolate milk every day! Now I really don't even buy boxed cereal, and I buy the pancake mix that you just add water too. My dh loves cheese, and that will probably skyrocket as well!

Milk at our walmart is up from 3.79 to 4.39 in a months' time, so I bought milk 2/$7 at the convenient store this week.

Our Kroger has milk half gallons 4/$5 this wk. So basically $2.50 a gallon. I still have only paid over $3 per gallon maybe once or twice. Don't know why our milk is cheaper.

I have never cooked with powdered milk - do you just mix the milk with water and add to the recipe??

As for prices -here in Michigan - we can still get 2 gallons for $5 at some store every week.

Yes that is how you use the powdered milk. For drinking it, you want it really cold. You might want to chill it, depending on the recipe. But for baking, it should probably be ok without it.
I am in Michigan and it is 3.19 at most stores.

That is one price hike. OMGoodness.

I only give DD milk at meals, the rest of the time its water or a little watered down juice.
She loves yoghurt and cheese too.
