Have you ever noticed the excessive price of healthy foods compared to junk foods?

When shopping it costs you twice as much for good meat, fruit and veg and healthier foods as opposed to junk foods.

Eating out is also the same. You can get a Big Mac meal here for $5.50 (burger, drink and chips) yet if you want a Deli Choice it costs up to $8.00 just for the burger. Makes me mad everytime.

I realise that is why people turn to unhealthy choices but it should be stopped and healthier foods should be cheaper than junk foods.

I totally agree with you. But I like to think that even though I am spending more money now...I am really saving money in the long term since I won't be having all health issues that "junk food eaters" will have later in life.

I agree this always makes me very upset also. I am lucky that my husband has a very good job and I can afford the luxury of buying the healthy things at the stores. I save and scrimp in other areas like my clothing. I wish that healthier eating was cheaper so that people could eat better. I think this would really help our obesity rate in the U.S. also.

It is getting crazy the price of food all a round, but especially the healthy foods. I am paying almost $2 per pound for apples, bananas are costing me .55 per pound. It is so hard to get healthy food like fruits and veggies when they are charging a small fortune for them.

We went shopping at Aldi's today and they had bananas for $1.49 a kilo so guess who got 2 kilos plus apples and kiwi fruit. Saves a lot of money on fruit today.

There are some foods they I do spend more money than I should. (meat) I like to buy the hormone free chicken and I buy turkey instead of beef. But I save money else where so I don't mind. Same with fruit I'm willing to buy it, but also I buy whats on sale that week and maybe one that's not.

Yes I totally agree. We were doing a lot of organic and now with dh's pay decrease that is going to be the first thing to go. It is just so expensive, it's awful. And I can go to Aldi's and buy the cheap cereal bars and crackers, probably 3 times as much as 1 smaller healthy container. But the Aldi's brand has high fructose corn syrup and partially hydrogenated oils in it. I just CAN'T do that to ds. Totally stinks. I do just about everything homemade anyway, can't I have a cheap healthy cereal bar to give ds every once in awhile?!
