I'm glad...maybe you will like it. It's well worth the $25/month. They are a great program when we get the boxes our freezer get full fast. Congrats on your pregnancy and HAPPY HOLIDAYS!!! Best wishes on everything.

Booker.... the price is going up to $30 the first of the year.. Our church just started Angel Food distrubution. It is a wonderful thing, well worth the money.. It will give you something else, besides what your already making.. And you can add on different things each month too. You don't have to commit to it long term, try it and see if you like it. Remember to eat healthy with a baby on the way. Take care of yourself.. Were here for you!

Yup, they will be $30 too, and the special packages are going up.

I went yesterday and it was really nice. The head lady used to work in the same department of the State I did (DEQ-ESSD - I was in the State Laboratory, she worked in the offices downtown, there's about 200 people or something in the ESSD). They carried the food for me, and I chatted with a lot of the women about babies and what now - I'm very obviously pregnant. They gave me the contact number for the local food bank, which I haven't been able to find, and they told me of another church in the town north of us that has a Wednesday night program that gives away food and clothes.

One of the ladies there offered to put my food in the freezer next month if I order, and baby makes her arrival in time for me to not make it there.

My friend and I are definitely going to be doing this program, at least until we both are more financially secure. I will also be checking out the food bank, now that I can find them! Our store does a thing where the food bank volunteers bag up non-perishable groceries, and then the store makes a receipt and tags the bag. The bags are set on a table and people can pick them up, "buy" them, and the bag is given to the store to deliver to the pantry. I've done that many times before, so it would be nice to be able to "get" them back LOL!

I already know what I'm doing with my apples - applesauce. I love homemade plain, chunky applesauce, and it freezes well. I can't wait to make it, and make the house smell good!

When we are financially secure, I do plan on finding out how I can help and donate to this program - an absolutely WONDERFUL thing!!

Thanks!!

I'm sorry about your husbands job. Hopefully things will work out for you guys soon.
Have you looked into WIC? I don't know much about the stateside program but when we were stationed overseas and I was pregnant we qualified for WIC and all the free food (eggs, milk, cereal, juices...) really helped us out.
Good luck!

I love Angel Food. It has saved our heinies many a time. Sometimes what you get isn't all that great but truth be known I save the things I don't like and if they are non-perishable I give them away to charities. "Waste not, want not."

This is not related to menu planning, but the girls on here have a lot of good advice. I found this website when trying to tweek my budget. The url is Budget Stretcher Personal Money Management Solutions and Budget Forms - Budget Stretcher Articles. If you are unable to pay all your bills, it tells you what are the most important ones to pay first. It's mostly common sense, but it may help. HTH I hope everything works out

Also, check to see if you have a participating church that does the Angel Food Ministries. Go to Food Ministry and Hunger Relief: Angel Food Ministries to check it out. You can get a lot of food for about $30. You don't have to be a member of that church either.
