I buy meat when it's on sale in different grocery stores. In my area, we have a few Spanish grocery stores. Sometimes they have very good sales. Like, i paid $0.79 per pound pork shoulder picnics. I use them to make sausage. And then 3 weeks later I saw another store sell for 0.67 a pound for a twin pack. So i bought again to make roasted mojo pork. It turned out very good. I can have it for lunch and dinner for most of the week only for $5.5

We are moving to a small farming town and plan to save up all year long to buy 1/2 cow (butchered in different kinds of meat - hamburger, steak, roast..) and buy a 1/2 pig to do the same with. This is what my sister does now and it saves their family of 5 a lot of money. All they need to buy then throughout the year is chicken, if they have the $, and if they don't they still have meat. :-) We don't know if we can afford to do it in March when the meat needs to be purchased because we are buying a house and moving but look forward to trying it next year.

Other wise we look for deals and buy in bulk.

We buy a whole pig and cow. We have done this for years. I love having the meat always on hand. Even though it cost a lot up front in the end it is much cheaper. Amazing how much cheaper the grocery bill is when you already have the meat. Also much easier to plan a meal.

We raise our own livestock, so we almost always have pork, beef, chicken, and fish (DH takes a one week fishing vacation in the summer and we freeze it).

Raising livestock can get expensive, so we found a way to get our meat for free. We raise meat for our families, and they pay for the animals and their feed...we just take care of the animals. We have very little out-of-pocket expense, and usually for things like tractor repair, fence upgrades, feeders, etc. Things that will benefit us in the long run.

Our animals have happy lives in a free-range pasture (this means a lot to me), and they are well-taken care of. We do use meds if they are sick, but it's rare and we've only had to use meds once for an eye infection. Our meat is organic, and free of hormones and antibiotics. It's a lot of work, but it is so worth it to have healthy meats always in the freezer.

I buy directly from the slaughter house. It's usually less than half of the supermarket price.

I have been hitting Costco for meat. I stock up on a whole salmon, a big pack of ground beef, pork loin, chicken, and sometimes tri tip. I break these down into meal size servings, vacuum pack, and freeze. It is a little extra work, but it is worth it. Last time I was there I got 6lbs of lean ground beef for 14.00.
