I bought my kids each a thermos from Walmart, they were cheap around $2/each. But looked like they would work. They do not. I pack their lunch at 6:30am and they eat between 10:30 and 12 at school. Their food is cold and then they won't eat.

What kind of thermos do you use that keep the food warm and will fit in a standard kids lunch box ? They have those square soft insulated kinds of lunch boxes.

Thanks!

We have thermoses that we bought at the thrift store for like 25 cents or less each. They say Thermos on the lid so I guess that's the brand? They work really well. If you put the lid in boiling water before putting it on top, it'll help keep the food a lot warmer. My son doesn't like for me to do that anymore because it made his food too hot (guess I could still do it and not heat his food as long). Not doing that, the thermoses still keep his food warm enough for him to eat. I pack it around 7:30 a.m. and he eats lunch at 11:45 a.m.

The drink thermoses we have are Aladdin ones and they work really well also. We only have two right now but are looking for more at thrift stores as they have spouts on the tops so that they don't have to pour their milk into the lids to drink. They are a lot less messy this way!

I've never had much luck with my thermoses that I bought at WalMart.

I broke down and bought 2 of these LL Bean ones (although, when I bought them last year, they were a bit cheaper). They are pricey, but they do work well. LL Bean stuff is guaranteed forever, so if I ever have a problem, they'll replace it.

I make sure that I fill them with hot water for about 10 minutes before I fill them in the morning, and the contents are still very warm around lunch time. I fill them 4.5 hours before lunch.

Another thing, check and see if your thermos is for hot foods. Some are only for cold.

My kids have Thermos brand. I put boiling water in them, seal them, and let them sit for 10 minutes before dumping the water and putting in the hot food. It seems to help a little, as they tell me the food is not actually hot when they eat it, but it isn't ice cold either. The fact that their lunchboxes are kept outside of their classrooms means that things cool down a lot faster IMO.

The Thermos's that we have can be used for hot or cold. I bought them at Target a few years back.
