Probably depends on the type of disposal you have...I've put them down ours for years and years (in two different houses) with absolutely no problems.

The only thing I know for sure you can do with them is add them to soil for acid in container gardening. They also are good in a compost pile. I know this isn't what you were asking but I hope it helps.
