I am so depressed when I go to the grocery store lately that I have been really watching my food waste. It is amazing to me how much I was actually throwing away and not even thinking about it.

I have been trying to give my 4 year old son smaller portions so none goes to waste. He can always have more. I have been literally eating his leftovers or making sure it gets put in the fridge to eat for lunch or dinner the next day.

I have a magic bullet and have been grounding up extra ham, chicken etc for ham salad or chicken tacos. Anyone else have more ideas on how NOT to waste such expensive food anymore?

How about cooking less? For us, we are big leftover eaters as they are easy to reheat for lunches. If your family doesn't really care for leftovers, the only suggestion I have is to cook less.

Leftovers are a major part of our diet. dh and I both take them for lunch. We also have leftover nights for supper about once a week. We DO NOT throw food out!

We do leftovers too, for lunch the next day.

One thing i do though is at night I freeze the left overs like a tv dinner. I bought several of the plastic containers with lids and compartments and just fix them and store in the frezzer, with the date and what is in them.

Also I can add to them, if there is not enough for a complete dinner. It also is a big help when the granddaughters come over and want a meal and I hadn't planed on cooking.

They love to go thru ruthie's tv dinners.

Dh and I take leftovers to work, or eat them for lunch the next day.

Some people have a clean out the fridge night at the end of the week. All of the leftovers are heated up, and that's supper. My Mom did this when I was growing up.

Some things can be turned into new meals
Leftover mashed potatoes= shepherd's pie
Meatloaf =meatloaf sandwiches
Bread =french toast, croutons
Chili =chili dogs

Left over night and lunches is the route we go. Also if I notice I have made too much food, I split the meal in half and freeze part of it. Make sure you rotate your frig -- something I need to do today. Pull that stuff that gets pushed to the back forward.

I have great reduced that amount of food that I tossed in the past few months. I'm not perfect at it but I know we've cut back.

I hate wasting food - so we usually eat it up the next day. If it is something that is going to sit in the fridge for more than 3 days - I freeze it - will eat it later when I am lazy to cook.

I usually freeze fruits that are a bit over ripe so I can use them in waffles, muffins, pies, pancakes etc.

I also make a fried rice with all the left over stuff.....typically it's on a Friday, so that my fridge is clean and ready for the weekend shopping.

We do alot of leftovers plus freezing extra portions for later. I am curious as what different dishes you can make with your leftover things like all meats, mashed potatoes, veggies etc.

Also, what about half eaten toast or bagels?

I always take overripe fruit and make smoothies or banana bread etc.

Nothing goes to waste in our house for food. With 2 kids one 15 and the other 9 leftovers are sometimes far and few, but when there is my DH and I will have it for lunch the next day or my DS will take it to school if he doesn't like what they are having or the kids sometimes eat it as a snack at night.
