Question Are you using more generic foods now that prices have risen?

With the rising cost of food I am trying more generic foods. I already used some but there was alot that I was a snob about. I am lowering my "standards" and discovering that most of the generic foods aren't bad.

Has anyone else discovered this?

You just need to see if it's cheaper to buy store brand or a name brand on sale especially if you can combine a coupon.
I have gone back to going to Aldi's for all my basics again.

I don't know if I am buying more store brands 'cause I have always bought them. I do compare prices between name and store brand and also if I have a coupon and go from there on which is cheaper.

I buy alot of sale/coupon stuff also....although thier are a few things Ive swapped to wal mart brand....

my biggest thing really is that I have started making ALOT more homemade stuff...as far as condiments etc.

Right now I am waiting on a cheese sale so I can make some Velveeta!

Honestly I have always done my best to be careful at buying what is cheapest (whether it be with a sale and coupon combo, or generic brand) but what I find myself doing now is trying to cut certain things out, doing away with snacks unless it is a special occasion and that sort of thing. It has helped with the budget and our health. I have been carpooling with my sister about every 6 weeks to "stockpile" at aldi (about 30 minutes away) and that has helped some too.

we've been experimenting with a lot of generic brand foods. some of them suck, but a lot of them are acceptable. and i still try to make the name brand cheaper with coupons. i always amaze my dh.
