-Buy the storebrand Bran Flakes and add your own raisins. Homemade Raisin Bran cheaper than Post or Kellogg's.
-Buy a box/container of oatmeal and add your own dried fruit, brown sugar, or maple syrup.

Anyone have any other ideas for adding your own ingredients to cereal and oatmeal?

I cook steel cut oats for an entire week and in the morning add bananas or raisins or other stuff and a little bit of milk and heat for a minute and it's ready.

This is really good for each person wants a different kind. And, of course, steel cut oats are tastier than the quick cooking one.

That's funny, I just bought a huge container of steel cut oats by accident and my kids hate it, they prefer quick. Anyway, back to the original comment..I add ground flax seed and wheat germ to my oatmeal to make it super healthy. (my kids won't eat that either, its just for me) Its better to buy the plain oatmeal anyway, you can vary what you put in, and control the amount of sugar...the prepackaged stuff is loaded with it.

My favorite oatmeal additions are chocolate (cocoa + sugar or hershey's syrup or chocolate chips) and peanut butter (crunchy). Sometimes separate, sometimes together. Mmm...

I always make my oatmeal with milk, not water. It's very creamy!

Other additions I like:
yogurt
fresh strawberries

We just buy the plain stuff and do add ins as well. My DD even does that to her bran cereal that she mixes together.
