My one addiction is diet pop. It could be quite costly, though, so I have found ways to cut the costs, since I am not cutting out pop!! I drink whatever is cheapest. Right now I have HyVee brand diet cola. It was on sale four 12 pks for $9!!! Occasionally I end up with Pepsi or Coke if they are on sale and I find a coupon. If nothing has a good sale, I can get Aldi's brand for $1.99 a 12 pk.

I haven't found too much taste difference in Pepsi and the generics.

Anyone have ways to save money on those "gotta have" items?

I do the same thing! My dh thinks the generic soda tastes gross but I've never been able to really taste a difference between them, so I guess I'm lucky!

My son and I only drink pop on pizza nights and when we go out to eat. I have gotten all my pop free through mycokerewards.com. When I stop getting it free is when I stop buying it.

I've switched from can's to 2-liters. I don't know if this is cheaper per ounce or anything, but I do know that I can't just grab a drink as I leave the house. I used to ALWAYS have a drink with me in the car. Now if I'm REALLY thirsty I can pour some, but otherwise I go without. I think we tend to drink less with the 2 liters.

I know that my must have these days is Diet Pepsi, so if I can find it for 4 12pks for $10 I stock up. My DH's must have is Mt. Dew so I do the same thing. I have also been trying (with not much luck) to cut back and drink more water... I can't drink alot of other brands ever since I was pregnant with my DD (who is now 16 mo. old); something about that pregnancy made my body react to other brands of pop with severe headaches and stomaches. ie. I love Coke but can't drink it anymore.

I used to drink 2-3 cans of Diet Coke a day. When I went to go visit my parents in March, I used that as a time to give it up. I drank about one can a day on that trip and now have phased it out completely. I just want to say that if you really want to give it up, it's not as hard as you may think! Plus, you'll feel a lot healthier too.

For me, I think it was force of habit. At certain times I needed a mental pick-me-up as much as I did something to drink. If you can try to give it up during a time when your routine isn't the same (such as a vacation) it makes it much easier.

I still have a can of pop occasionally, but I don't feel like I'm addicted anymore. Plus, I'm saving lots of money!

I totally agree with this! Since I've been cutting back, I have noticed that when the boys are being extra....boy-like....I find myself thinking, "I need a pop."

I also noticed on a couple days I had "relapsed" and had too much pop to drink, the next morning I feel AWFUL.
