When buying meat for your family, how do you save money? Where do you shop to get the best deals? What cuts/types are the cheapest yet still taste good? Share your advice here!

I just buy ahead when there is a good deal on meat. Like when they have the managers special at my local Glen's. I got really good quality meat for $1.39 a pound. So I bought 20 pounds!

We eat a lot of things with Burger in it (not because we have to but because we like to) and that always keeps the price of meat down.

I also check the meat deals at my Save-a-Lot. I can get a pretty good price there sometimes even though I don't like the quality. I just take the ad to Walmart and get them to match it.

I also grab up any coupons for meat products that we use and try to stock up on those when they are on sale.

We stock up when it's on sale also.

I have switched to buying frozen chicken breasts from the fresh (actually did this a long time ago). I was getting 20oz pkgs for $4.99 - 5.99 and freezing them and with the already frozen I can get 48 oz for the same price. They taste just as yummy ~ we haven't noticed a difference.

We don't buy much beef except for hamburger - which I will also cut down on in the near future. We just bought a whole pig from the neighbor and are having it butchered ~ so I will have lots of ground pork to use up

Since dh doesn't like any form of noddles or beans, except baked and green beans. I have to cook meat at just about every meal.

So normally I look for sales, but I also by the cheaper cuts and marinate them and cook them in the crock pot.

For example I buy the minute steak, that is cheap but also tough. So I pounded it and add just a little meat tenderizer. Then I roll it in flour or bread crumbs, and brown pretty fast. Then I lined my crock pot with onions and put the meat on top of them. I then add a can of french onion soup. and cook on low.

Or you can take the same minute steak and brown and put in crock pot with a can of stewed tomatoes.

I use cheap stew meat and cook it in the crock pot with a little coffee and beef broth and onions and serve over rice.

I buy the cheaper cut of roasts and chops and do them the same way. I just trim the fat first.

Also to us it is cheaper to buy the angus burgers in the frozen section of the meat department. We get 6 for 5.99 (bubba brand).

I also watch kroger and a lot of time they will have their bag chicken at 25% off.

We are lucky because during fair time we get a 4-H cow and split with 3 other families at Kevin's work. When that does run out (around March/April) I buy meat only when it is on sale and stock up.

I only buy hamburger meat, pork chops, roasts, etc...when I can find them on sale. Our local grocery store usually puts out the reduced meats first, so I try to do my shopping in the morning to try and find any reduced meats. If chicken breasts are not on sale I have bought a whole chicken and cooked it, chopped up the meat and used for 2-3 meals. Sometimes when chicken thighs or drumsticks are on sale I will buy them and use in chicken and dumplings. I have also started reducing the amount of ground beef I am using in pastas, using a little less than a full pound, dh hasn't seemed to notice.

I only buy chicken, ground beef, and pork chops.

-I get my ground beef in a massive roll from Sams. Ive found its leaner and cheaper.

- I get the chicken from winn dixie because I can normally catch it BOGO.

- and I get my pork chops on markdown. If i cant find it marked down I but ground pork patties. and theyre awesome. Ive found that my family tends to really like them.

Also I keep an eye out at Food Lion for sales on meat, they always have mark downs and when they do I stock up big time.

Every six months I shop around for the cheapest hindquater of beef. We are close to some farms - so sometimes a farm butcher will give a better price than others.

Besides for that I wait until the fish is on special - and buy a large quantity and the same with the chicken.

We normally add stuff to the meat to make it go further - depending of course what we are making.
