CHEAP yummy meal!! SO my solution is to make a simple small meal look more appealing and adding in things with extra flavors.

That sounds good!! I have never eaten that combo before!

I also add TVP to any recipe with ground beef, spaghetti sauce, lasagna, tacos, sloppy joes, etc. It's cheap and healthy and no one seems to notice as long as I keep the ratios equal for meat:TVP.

It's pretty tasteless .. soy flour but it takes on the taste and texture of ground beef when you cook with it. I buy it at the bulk store.

I make pasta sauce stretch out further (if that makes sense?) by adding bread which is too stale to eat. I know this sound disgusting but I found it in an old Italian cookbook I swear!

I slice-up chunks of cheese, turkey ham, etc. as soon as I get them home. If I leave it for other family members to do for themselves, it won't stretch as far because the they make thicker slices.

Sometimes, when the ketchup bottle is getting low, I pour in some plain tomato sauce and shake it well. No one has ever noticed.

I took a page out of the resturants book on this one -- I serve salads and bread with the meal and then put the main course on smaller dishes. Everyone eats a little less because they THINK they have more. I don't serve tiny portions -- more than enough to fill us up -- but not enough to feel over full.

I can get pretty good deal on the lettuce at my local Asian Market. (They even sell the pre-made salad bags for less than a dollar.) Day old bread warmed up in the oven tastes new again!!

I add shredded veggies and extra can sauce to my pasta sauce. I can make a jar last for two go meals. I just freeze the other one. Total cost is about $3 for two meals. I buy the sauce on sale for 99 cents and use coupons with a tripled so that is free. I buy ww pasta on sale.. stocked up when they were 25 cents per bag. I make my own bread for garlic bread. And the veggies come from my garden. It may even be less than $3 but i figured in the stuff to make the bread.

I usually use half the meat required and add beans that I made from dried beans. My kids love beans.
We get our bread for free from a placed called the bread store. All donations are given to the senior center. So I cook around bread alot. Toast, sandwiches, french toast, etc.
Use alot of vegies with our meal. Whatever is in season I cook around.
Use alot of brown rice (bought in bulk) or whole wheat noodles (also in bulk). They fill you fast and are super healthy.
I bake muffins alot for snacks. Throw in alot of flax seed (bulk) and seasonal fruit or dried fruit I bought on super sale.
I shop sales. Like right now is Memorial Day sales, I buy up what I can and use for later. Like Chicken Grill pack with breast and legs 88 cents a lb. Freeze it for later use. Its cheaper than getting a whole chicken.
I dont buy from one store. Fred Meyers has all our super healthy things. Winco I buy my bulk and meats for cheap. Grocery Outlet I buy alot of my fruit, snacks, and deli meats from. I save so much buying this way.
I cook whats in season only. This way I save money and my kids get to eat differant things in differant season.
I grow my own vegie garden. This saves me so much money. And I give away what we cant eat.
I could go on....
